Front Of The Front
October 13, 2008
Took this in the parking lot after CPR training class. We'd had a moderately sunny day until about 5 p.m. when this front started moving through. It was kind of cool to be able to photograph the leading edge of the front on it's way across the Willamette Valley.
Industrial Iron Works, Portland, OR
October 12, 2008
Cliche, I know. But, the grit, grime and green center plus the ragged concrete called to me. I juiced up the shot with Poster Edges and Solarization filters in PSE6.
This is obviously a very old utilities cover just based on inspection of other utilities covers nearby. I tried googling up info on Industrial Iron Works in early Portland but had no luck in the search.
Thank you for your comments and kudos on my Blue Moon, Fall Flower, and Abbi's Birthday photos. You encourage me with your compliments and inspire me with your excellent photos!
KOIN Tower and Cloud
October 11, 2008
KOIN Tower during a sun break on an otherwise rainy day in Portland. I love how the dramatic style and texture of the building shows up in the low, slanting, sunset light. Also, I like the grey cloud above the building.
Thanks for everyone's compliments and encouragements on my last two days' photos. This community is great for the ego! :)
Blue Moon
October 10, 2008
Had dinner here tonight before going to see
On The Wing at Cinema 21.
Blue Moon is an enjoyable pub cog in the
McMenamin's empire. Good beer, decent pub food, great vibe.
Fall Flower
October 9, 2008
I really wanted to shoot the house remodel that was going on nearby on Sellwood Blvd, but there were so many workmen I felt self conscious so I took photos of this great flower instead.
Sellwood Cottage
October 8, 2008
Passed this on a walk through our neighboring neighborhood. It's so typical of a lot of little houses in Sellwood and Westmoreland. When I composed the shot I immediately knew I wanted to add a filter to the final photo to take advantage of all the texture. Sum-i filter added in PSE6.
Downtown Portland From Oaks Bottom
October 7, 2008
It's been awhile since I've photographed here but today I took a walk along the bluff overlooking
Oaks Bottom. The contrast between the still-green wetlands and the hazy downtown buildings was a very appealing photo. I kept hoping for a rainbow but this was as good as I was able to get.
Abbi's Birthday
October 6, 2008
My granddaughter is nine. Her brother, Zack, serves her cake. Abbi's mom, my daughter, supervises.
Gerding Theater Entry
October 5, 2008
Took this when we went to see
Guys and Dolls a couple of nights ago. This is the foyer of the Gerding Theater at the Armory, clubhouse for
Portland Center Stage and its productions.
I'm not entirely certain what attracts me to this shot every time I've come here. I think, perhaps, it reminds me of a kind of gigantic patchwork quilt in colorful, busy, block-like way.
The Gerding is a wonderful theater venue and has an even neater exterior appearance and history. It's been the subject of other daily photos of mine in the past which you can view
here and
here
Brewery Tanks and Reflection
October 4, 2008
Took this last night at Deschutes Brewery. It's odd, to be sure, yet it fascinates me with the shining stainless steel, the overhead light patterns on the steel, the hoses, overhead stuff, and then the reflections from the pub in the window I'm shooting through. If you look carefully, you can see an exit sign in the middle right, the Deschutes Brewery sign in the lower left, plus a window from behind me is reflected in the glass and overlaid onto the tanks. The weirdness of the look was what attracted me.
