The Pioneer Courthouse

Took a walk downtown today to celebrate gorgeous weather and to buy Hugh a suit for NAB.  Our first gorgeous day in over a week and the streets were filled with happy people soaking up the sun.

I loved the light reflecting off the Macy's building and onto the north side of the restored Pioneer Courthouse.  What perfect luck I had to snap the shot which included a woman in a red coat!

Antiquite´de Paris

Settled in for a photomontage play session after listening to Jonah Lehrer on Fresh Air talk about how creativity happens.  This came from a great clock face I shot while in San Diego a couple of weeks ago.  The other bits are older.   A door with stained glass panels in Amsterdam, a bit of tile border also from Amsterdam.  The flower was already on the edge of the clock and it seemed to work to make more of it.  A layer of boring old floor tile added texture.

What I like about it is its symmetry and balance.  I think it perhaps could be better with more simplicity.  Yet, I'm purely amazed to have something like this come out with no forethought in mind.  So, I'm happy with it for now!

Up Res Condo

A higher resolution image of yesterday's photo.  This is more like what I saw it could be from the street.

Waiting In The Rain For A Train

More dreary rain today Went to The Pearl to try a tan which I've never done before. (Hey! I was a Valley Girl for 15 years. I miss the sun.) I figure try anything for awhile to lift my mood.

Anyhow, I was stuck waiting for a freight train next to the Encore Condo building. I loved the swoop of the balconies from my vantage point on the street. So, iPhone at the ready, I made this photo then toasted it in PhotoToaster and Photogene2.

I love architectural abstracts and I think this one is pretty good. What do you think?

More Macro Photos

Here are macro photos from my current class assignment to make photos of small objects next to a word that correlates to it in the dictionary.  The idea is to make only the correlated word stand out sharp and clear and enough of the object so the viewer can tell what it is.  Check the photos out to see how I did!

Dichroic Heart

A macro assignment from the online photo class I'm taking.  A heart within a heart!

Sunny Balcony, San Diego

Spied a great shadow photo on a sunny day in San Diego a couple of weeks ago with my friend, Judy.  This is the Column One store in Hillcrest neighborhood where my son used to live.  I've started going through my photos from the San Diego trip and I must say, I miss the sun!

What I like about the photo is the great diagonal of the shadow and how it supports the balcony in the upper right.  I also think the colors lend a rich and warm feeling to the entire shot.  It could be better if I hadn't cut off the "H" in Home Furnishings.

Tacoma Narrows Bridge

The Tacoma Narrows Bridge over the strait of Puget Sound.

So, I'm still excited about the vintage look I get from Vintage, an iPhone photo editing app and I want to make more images like that!  But I wanted to do it on my computer using skills from my recent online photomontage class.  Start with your basic lucky shot from a moving train, add in quite a bit of fiddling using two texture layers plus a layer download from Shadowhouse Creations (they're awesome, btw!) and you get this! Which I very much like.  Let me know what you think.

Postcards

Made these for my photomontage assignment last month and am just now getting around to posting them. The assignment was to create the look of an old postcard from a new photo.  I used two shots I made while in Palm Springs.

Boat On Sound

Took this yesterday from the train--a boat on Puget Sound. Shot it with my walking around camera, Panasonic Lumix LX3. Then, because I was so excited by Vintage, a post processing iPhone app, I emailed it to my phone so I could use the app!

Waiting On A Train

A day spent Amtraking to/from Seattle for orthodontia. Early this morning we sat idle for over an hour on the track since a freight train ahead of us had hit a pedestrian. Seattle had furious snow punctuated by sun breaks. Very weird, spring weather.

So, while doing all this waiting, I tried out two photo post processing apps on my iPhone. This is the result--my glasses on the seat table--with special effects.

Guitar Hands

Made this tonight during our little music practice session.  Loved the dark background of John's guitar and his dark sweater and jeans in contrast with his hands and arms.  I think the little touch of red in his sweater adds something, too.  Not sure what, but I like it.

Off to Seattle tomorrow on Amtrak.  Hoping the foul weather we're having is limited to rain for the ride both coming and going.

Circles

This is from 2008, looking up through a cupola of an office building in downtown Portland.  It was a drizzly, depressing day when I stepped inside out of the rain only to find this amazing sight.  The shot works because it was cloudy, I think.  Though it might be interesting to go back there with blue skies one day to see what I might get.

Number Nine, Number Nine

The last of my number assignment photomontages for my online class.  Though they were tough to work out, and the class challenged and stretched me, I admit I'm going to miss the class.

Sink Or Swim

Made these today for the last assignment of my online photomontage class.  I like the 14 better than the 5. Still making another one to post in class.
